Being on the water is good for the body and the soul!

April 17, 2017

There is nothing more satisfying than a strenuous paddle on a beautiful day.  A hard paddle, fresh air and the beautiful scenery of a calm lake is enough to settle the blues and free your mind.

Many people have asked me what I like most about paddling and I have to say that my favourite part about being on the water is the calmness, the quiet and the absolute beauty that surrounds you.

This is not the only benefit of paddling though. There are so many benefits and I highly suggest that you give it a shot and see for yourself.

But, if you are still unconvinced, here are my top 5 awesome benefits of paddling, whether it be a paddle board, kayak or canoe:

1.)  Exercise and nature helps increase your mood, releases endorphins (happy hormones) and leaves you feeling full of energy.

2.)  Exercising on the water helps sharpen the brain. According to a study published in PLOS One, natural environments create a sense of excitement in our minds that artificial indoor environments don't allow.

3.)  Helps with anxiety and depression. There is scientific research that suggests nature lowers anxiety and depression levels.

4.)  You just might find yourself getting in shape, feeling stronger and healthier. There is nothing better than feeling strong and in shape while paddling on the water.

5.)  It is an instant relaxer and leaves your head feeling calm and less distracted.

These are the top 5 reasons why I choose to chill out on the lake. If you are a non-believer or want to see if I speak the truth about these 5 benefits, come on over to West Coast Water Sports, rent a paddle board and experience it for yourself.
